Explore the natural beauties of Toraja highland to experience the unique culture of Toraja people which is based on animistic beliefs. Known for their grand burial ceremonies on cliffs or hanging graves, they practice an ancestral cult even today where death and afterlife ceremonies are great feasts when buffaloes are sacrificed in the final death ceremony, after which the deceased’s remains are placed in a coffin and interred in caves hollowed out in high cliffs.
Enclosed below please find the tour program with the duration of 4 DAYS/3 NIGHTS. In this package, we will visit the cliff-side stone grave with wooden effigies on the balcony at Lemo, the royal family tombs at Suaya, the baby grave in the huge tree at Kambira, traditional dance performance at Sangalla, the natural cave at Londa and the traditional wooden carving village at Kete Kesu. You’ll also be struck by the unusual architecture of the traditional Toraja house Tongkonan at Palawa. We will also make trekking from Pana through the rice-field and some village down to Tikala to enjoy the beuties scenery of the highland.

The entry point of Toraja is Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi Province. Makassar Airport is accessible by flights from Jakarta, Bali and other major cities in Indonesia.

TORAJA CULTURAL TOUR I

DAY 01: BALI – MAKASSAR AIRPORT – RANTEPAO (TORAJA HIGHLAND) (L)
Upon arrival at Makassar Airport, meeting service and then transfer to Toraja by Fully Airconditioned private Minibus or Car to take a drive-trip to Toraja Land with approximately 8 hours trip taking across the Bugis Village with their typical houses on poles along the magnificent mountain passes. Lunch will be served at Bukit Indah Restaurant in Pare-Pare, a small port situated 155 km north of Makassar. Late afternoon arrive in Toraja directly check-in at hotel for accommodation
DAY 02: TORAJA TOUR (B,L)
After breakfast at the hotel, we will conduct a visit to the royal family tombs at Suaya, the cliff-side stone grave with wooden effigies ”tau – tau ” on the balcony at Lemo, the baby’s graves in the huge tree at Kambira. This way of tombs making is the only one in the archipelago, the Torajan do not bury their corps on earth, but on the stone hole, cave or alike. Before the died body placed in such place, it has to be put in the Tongkonan (the clan house) as they believe that, the died person would not leave them as long as the body is still at home. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant with the ricefield side view. After lunch, the next interesting place to visit is Londa, the natural cave grave, and Kete Kesu, traditional wooden carving village and hanging grave.
DAY 03: TORAJA TOUR (B, L)
Visiting Palawa, a village with the beautiful scenery of the Toraja family houses ‘ Tongkonan’, and a number of buffalo’s horns decorated to the front of their houses, Sa’ dan To’Barana, the traditional cotton weaving village, Batutumonga, the highland area And the beautiful landscape of 1355 meters high, which has temperature 17o C in the daytime and lunch will be served in here, Lo’ komata, the graves on the rocky slope, Which mean, the hole of the grave seems like an eye. And then trekking from Pana to Tikala, more fascinating spot that can be seen along the way.
DAY 04: TORAJA – MAKASSAR AIRPORT – DEPARTURE (B, L)
After breakfast, we drive back Makassar with the stop en route for lunch and refreshment. Arrive Makassar Airport in the afternoon for your flight to next destination.
